Internet Art

Internet art- a form of digital art distributed via the internet

Internet art can essentially be any art put on the internet for everyone to see. when I thought of internet art, it reminded me of animated gifs and pixel art. Images on the computer are seen as pixels, tiny squares on the screen. Images can range from a low to high resolution of pixels.

Pixel art is also found in many old video games. The band Anamanaguchi appeals to the generation that has played these games. They play the 8 bit music that accompanied classic games.

Internet art can also be found outside the internet. This artist used blocks to depict pixels

Relational Aesthetics

In 1998, French curator Nicholas Bourriaud published a book called Relational Aesthetics

Bourriaud saw artists as facilitators rather than makers and regarded art as information exchanged between the artist and the viewers. The artist, in this sense, gives audiences access to power and the means to change the world

Estrangement (Verfremdungseffekt)

Estrangement - originally used in cinematography and performing arts, something that distances the audience from the characters. Making something that is known and familiar into something strange and unfamiliar. Forces the audience to become detached and become a critical observer.

Also known as:
Verfremdungseffekt
Distancing effect
Alienation effect

In the E section of the dictionary, I created a bookmark to put in between pages. When seen next to the pages, the color draws the eye in and away from the text.

Intertextuality

Intertextuality - The shaping of a text's meaning by other texts. Texts and meanings in relationship to each other.

For this section of the book, I looked through the D section of the dictionary. I used the word dictionary as the word for this section. I matched the meaning of dictionary with the meaning of dictionary.com. I created a webpage from dictionary. com out of a paper dictionary. I compared the amount of information given from the paper dictionary, to the information given in the online dictionary. It continues to tell a message about advancements in technology.

Assemblage

Assemblage - a collection of found objects that create a single three dimensional composition.

For this section of the book, I used the C section of the dictionary. I was looking for ways to integrate Assemblage into the words of the dictionary. I had the idea of finding objects in the room and assembling them to their corresponding spot in the dictionary. For example, if i found cord in my room, I would attach it next to the word cord in the dictionary. However, living in the dorm i had very few items to work with, there were not enough interesting objects in the room that started with the letter C. So I decided I would use just one word. I noticed that I still had chocolate from valentines day, so I attached the foil from the chocolate to the page and came up with this.

Project 1

Snail Mask

Often, a person can get lost in music and block out the rest of the world. People become sheltered and confide in their music. I used organic shapes from life that are connected to the idea of shelter and protection. The shell and cocoon were the first things to come to mind. I took this context and applied it to my mask.

While wearing the mask, people can listen to the music and lose themselves.
